Marketplace projects will be implemented in 17 countries with the collaboration of 22 Embrapa research centers


The Africa-Brazil Agricultural Innovation Marketplace (the Africa-Brazil Marketplace) has been running since 2010. In just over 2 years the Marketplace reviewed a total of 168 projects from 26 African countries, involving a partnership with 37 Embrapa research centers, from 4 thematic areas. In this period, the Steering Committee has approved a total of 30 projects, involving 11 countries and 21 research centers of Embrapa. Ten projects are being implemented  and 20 new projects  are ready to start.

Launched in October of 2011, the LAC-Brazil Agricultural Innovation Marketplace (the LAC-Brazil Markeplace is focused on generating benefits for small farmers in the region. Among the 90 projects reviewed by the Steering Committee, 5 were approved to be implemented in five countries, with the participation of 3 Embrapa research centers.

Project monitoring of the Africa-Brazil-LAC Agricultural Innovation Marketplace at Embrapa Western Region Agriculture Center in Dourados, Brazil

The Marketplace team visited Embrapa Western Region Agriculture research center (CPAO) last May, located in the city of Dourados, state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The visit was part of the regular project monitoring activities conducted by the initiative. The objective was to discuss the project progress. Dr. Romulo Penna Scorza Junior, from CPAO, and his African colleague, Dr. Gbenonchi Mawussi, from the Universite de Lome, Ecole Superieure d'Agronomie in Togo co-lead the project  "Pesticide leaching and loss to ground water in coastal vegetable growers in Togo ", supported by the Marketplace initiative. The visit benefited from the presence of Dr. Mawussi, who as on a project related tecnical mission to CPAO. According to Paulo Duarte and Uander Gonçalves, the Maketplace team members participating in the mission, "The project is progressing well and will contribute positively to the environmental safety in Togo ".
